Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has been fined 30 percent of his match fee for using “abusive language and aggressive gestures” during the high-voltage Asia Cup Super 4 clash against India.

The fiery pacer, known for his intensity on the field, crossed the line in the heated contest and was penalized under the ICC’s code of conduct. The fine serves as a financial penalty but does not affect his availability for upcoming matches.

Meanwhile, opener Sahibzada Farhan also drew attention for his unusual celebration after scoring a half-century. Farhan marked the milestone with a ‘gun-fire’ gesture, which the officials deemed inappropriate. However, he escaped with just a formal warning and no monetary punishment.

The India-Pakistan encounters have always carried an extra edge, and emotions often run high. While both incidents added to the drama of the fixture, the match officials ensured that disciplinary standards were upheld.

Asia Cup Tensions Flare: Haris Rauf Fined, Sahibzada Farhan Warned After India Clash

The Asia Cup has taken yet another dramatic turn, with Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf fined 30 percent of his match fees and teammate Sahibzada Farhan escaping with just a warning following their controversial actions during the Super 4 clash against India.

The disciplinary hearing, overseen by match referee Richie Richardson, was held at the Pakistan team hotel. Both Rauf and Farhan were present, alongside team manager Naveed Akram Cheema, though their statements were submitted in writing.

According to tournament sources quoted by PTI, “Match referee Richie Richardson had completed his hearing on Friday afternoon at the team hotel. Haris Rauf has been fined 30 percent of his match fees for aggressive behaviour, while Farhan has been let off with a warning.”

The controversy began when Rauf was fielding near the boundary and was subjected to chants of “Kohli, Kohli” from Indian fans, reminding him of Virat Kohli’s famous sixes off his bowling at the 2022 T20 World Cup in Melbourne. In response, Rauf allegedly made provocative gestures, including one mimicking a plane crash—widely interpreted as mocking India’s military operations. The fiery pacer also exchanged words with Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma during India’s chase.

Farhan, meanwhile, made headlines after celebrating his half-century with a ‘gun-fire’ gesture. Although the act sparked debate, officials decided to issue him only a warning. Speaking later at the post-match press conference, Farhan downplayed the matter: “That celebration was just a moment at that time. I don’t do a lot of celebrations after scoring 50. It suddenly came to my mind, so I did it. I don’t know how people will take it, and I don’t care about that.”

The incidents came after the BCCI formally lodged a complaint against both players, accusing them of making provocative gestures. The rivalry had already intensified earlier in the tournament when Indian players refused to shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts after the group-stage match, a gesture repeated in the Super 4 encounter.

Adding to the friction, Pakistan themselves had filed a complaint against India captain Suryakumar Yadav. After the group-stage win, Suryakumar dedicated the victory to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and the Indian armed forces. While denying any wrongdoing, he was advised by officials to avoid politically sensitive remarks for the remainder of the tournament.

On the field, Pakistan have struggled to match India, losing both their encounters in the Asia Cup so far. Yet, they did enough in the group stages to secure a place in the final, setting up a historic showdown. For the first time since the tournament’s inception, India and Pakistan will clash in an Asia Cup final on Sunday—promising another chapter in one of cricket’s fiercest rivalries.
