Suryakumar Keeps Calm Ahead of India-Pakistan Asia Cup Final

India skipper Suryakumar Yadav brushed aside the hype surrounding the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan, insisting that his primary concern is the fitness of his players after a draining Super 4s clash against Sri Lanka in Dubai on Friday.

The Men in Blue edged Sri Lanka in a nail-biting finish, but the victory came at a cost as Hardik Pandya and Abhishek Sharma suffered cramps and had to return to the dressing room for treatment. Bowling coach Morne Morkel confirmed there would be no training on Saturday, allowing the squad to focus entirely on recovery before Sunday’s blockbuster finale.

India have already beaten Pakistan twice in this tournament, but with tempers flaring in previous encounters, another heated contest is on the cards. Yet, Suryakumar downplayed the rivalry, making it clear that his team will stick to their process.

“Let’s have a good recovery tonight. A few boys had cramps today, so tomorrow will be about rest. We’ll come out the same way we did today,” he said at the post-match presentation.

Tensions in Super 4s Clash

The Super 4s meeting between India and Pakistan was far from short of drama. Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi exchanged words with Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill, while Pakistani players Haris and Sahibzada Farhan courted controversy with provocative gestures. Rauf mocked the Indian crowd with “6-0” signals, referencing a military claim, while Farhan celebrated his fifty with a gun gesture.

These antics led to disciplinary action. Following a BCCI complaint, ICC match referee Richie Richardson summoned the players for a hearing. Farhan escaped with a warning, but Rauf was docked 30% of his match fee. Interestingly, Suryakumar was also fined 30% for comments he made earlier in the group stage when he dedicated India’s win to the Armed Forces in solidarity with victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.

India’s Dominance Over Pakistan

The final at the Dubai International Stadium carries extra weight, but history tilts heavily in India’s favour. Pakistan haven’t beaten India since October 2022, with the Men in Blue enjoying a commanding seven-match winning streak. With form and momentum on their side, India enter the final as clear favourites, while Pakistan will be desperate to break their long drought.
