Asia Cup 2025 has seen Abhishek Sharma emerge as India’s standout performer, and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar believes the young opener can carry his golden form into the high-stakes final against Pakistan.

Abhishek, who has struck three consecutive half-centuries, is the tournament’s leading run-scorer and the only player in Asia Cup T20 history to cross the 300-run mark. His fearless batting in the powerplay has given India explosive starts, often tilting games in their favour while others in the lineup struggled for rhythm.
Despite whispers that the “law of averages” may catch up with him in the final, Gavaskar dismissed such concerns.
“There are several key players who can make a difference. Suryakumar Yadav is due for runs, as are Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, and Hardik Pandya. Shubman Gill has batted well but hasn’t delivered the big scores we expect from him. There’s plenty of batting firepower, so no need to be overly concerned,” Gavaskar told India Today.
“Abhishek Sharma Won’t Let Opportunities Slip”
Gavaskar backed Abhishek to seize the moment, even hinting that the opener could finally convert one of his fine starts into a century.
“Abhishek has been in tremendous touch with three fifties. Despite being denied a ton by a run-out earlier, he’s likely to push for a three-figure score in the final. He won’t let opportunities slip by,” he added.
India’s Fitness Concerns
While India cruised into the title clash, a few injury scares have emerged. Hardik Pandya limped off with a hamstring issue after bowling just one over against Sri Lanka, while Abhishek cramped up in the Gulf heat. However, bowling coach Morne Morkel assured fans that the opener is fit.
“Hardik will be assessed tomorrow morning. Both him and Abhishek suffered cramps, but Abhishek is fine,” Morkel said.
With Abhishek’s blistering form, India’s depth in batting, and Pakistan’s hunt for redemption, the Asia Cup 2025 final in Dubai is shaping up to be a blockbuster.
