Mithun Manhas Elected BCCI President: Mithun Manhas has been elected unopposed as the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at the 94th Annual General Meeting held in Mumbai. The former Delhi captain described the role as both an honor and a huge responsibility, pledging to serve Indian cricket with dedication and passion.

“It’s an absolute honour to be the president of the world’s finest cricketing board. My only agenda is to take BCCI and Indian cricket forward,” Manhas told reporters after the AGM.

Other key office-bearers were formalized without contest, including Devajit Saikia as secretary, former India spinner Raghuram Bhatt as treasurer, Prabhtej Bhatia as joint secretary, Rajiv Shukla as vice-president, and Arun Dhumal as IPL chairman. For the third consecutive term, these positions were finalized at an informal pre-nomination meeting, bypassing electoral politicking.

In another significant appointment, Rohan Jaitley, president of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), was named chairman of the eight-member BCCI Infrastructure Committee, while former Saurashtra captain Jaydev Shah joined the Apex Council.

Manhas, Bhatt, and Shah bring substantial domestic cricket experience to the administration. Harbhajan Singh, attending the AGM for the first time, praised the trend of former players taking up cricket administration. “When a cricketer heads a cricket body, his experience comes in handy. It’s great to see this continue for three terms. Nothing is bigger for a cricketer than to give back to the game,” he said.

Manhas, born in Jammu, never played for India internationally but was a domestic heavyweight, captaining Delhi and leading stars like Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, and Ashish Nehra. His work managing the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) also contributed to his election.

Selection Committee Gets Younger Look

The India men’s selection committee now has a younger outlook. Former left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha and left-arm pacer RP Singh, both 39, replace veterans S Sharath (52) and Subroto Banerjee (56). With Ajit Agarkar leading the panel, the average age of selectors is now 43. Ajay Ratra and SS Das continue as committee members.

The committee will soon focus on India’s ODI strategy ahead of the next World Cup. Discussions also took place on reviving the Talent Research Development Officers (TRDO) program, credited with discovering stars like MS Dhoni.

BCCI also announced plans to live stream more domestic cricket, including Duleep Trophy games, leveraging recent gains from the ₹579-crore jersey sponsorship deal with Apollo Tyres.
