Asia Cup 2025 Final turned chaotic in Dubai on Sunday night as India’s record ninth title win over Pakistan was overshadowed by unprecedented trophy drama. The post-match presentation descended into controversy after Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and ACC president Mohsin Naqvi allegedly walked away with the winners’ trophy, leaving the ceremony in complete disarray.

India, who defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the high-voltage clash, refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi. According to reports, the Indian players had already informed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) that Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s interior minister, was not an acceptable figure to present the silverware.

As Naqvi stood awkwardly on stage, Indian players kept their distance, while fans inside the stadium loudly chanted “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.” Organisers, caught in the standoff, eventually moved the trophy away to the dressing room instead of holding the usual photo session on stage.

Team India

Tensions between both sides had been simmering throughout the tournament — from refused handshakes to the absence of the traditional pre-toss photographs. The final only added fuel to the fire.

In another bizarre twist, Pakistan’s players stayed inside their dressing room for nearly an hour after the defeat, leaving Naqvi stranded on the dais. When skipper Salman Agha and his team finally came out, they were met with thunderous chants of “Indiaaaa, Indiaaaa” from the crowd.

On the field, India were clinical. Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav starred with 4 for 30, ripping through Pakistan’s middle order after a promising 103-run opening stand by Sahibzada Farhan (57) and Fakhar Zaman (46). Chasing 147, Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 69 off 53 balls guided India home with support from Shivam Dube (33), sealing yet another continental triumph.

While India’s emphatic win further extended their dominance in Asian cricket, the night will be remembered as much for their brilliance as for the shocking Asia Cup 2025 trophy fiasco that unfolded in Dubai.
