Asia Cup 2025 ended in heartbreak for Pakistan as they suffered a narrow defeat to India in the final, and emotions spilled over for former pacer Mohammad Amir. Sharing a video on his official X handle, Amir appeared teary-eyed, his voice trembling as he reflected on Pakistan’s collapse after a promising start.
The left-arm fast bowler admitted it felt like Pakistan had gifted the match away. “Yaar, humne plate mein rakh ke de diya match. Yeh bohot bada mauka tha, hum jeet sakte the. India ne toss jeet kar humein batting di, achha tha. Final mein hamesha pehle batting karni chahiye,” Amir said, stressing that Pakistan missed a golden chance to beat their arch-rivals.
Pakistan’s collapse after strong start
Amir’s frustration stemmed from the team’s inability to build on their powerful beginning. At one stage, Pakistan were cruising at 113/1 inside 12 overs with both openers set. But instead of capitalizing, they lost wickets in a heap and folded for just 146 runs.
“Runs on the board, especially in T20s, always create pressure. But from that position, I don’t know what happened. 146 was never defendable,” Amir lamented.
India’s fightback led by Tilak Varma
India too had early struggles in their chase, reduced to 20/3 in the fourth over. But young batter Tilak Varma stood firm with a composed 69 off 52 balls*, stitching key partnerships that guided India to victory with ease.
Amir’s words rang true — in modern T20 cricket, totals in the 140-150 range rarely prove enough. “One partnership is enough to chase these kinds of scores,” he noted, highlighting Pakistan’s failure to push their total beyond a competitive mark.

A tactical lesson for Pakistan
Amir’s emotional reaction also carried a sharp cricketing insight. At 100/1, teams are expected to cross 180-plus in today’s T20 landscape. Pakistan’s inability to cash in not only cost them the trophy but also showed the recurring problem of middle-order collapses under pressure.
For Pakistan fans, Amir’s tears symbolized both the pain of another lost opportunity and the urgency for the team to evolve in high-stakes matches against India.
