The Asia Cup trophy controversy took another dramatic turn on Tuesday (September 30, 2025), as the impasse over the presentation of the trophy to champions India remained unresolved. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) staged a walkout during the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Board meeting, intensifying the standoff.
According to reports, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla and former treasurer Ashish Shelar, who attended the meeting virtually, logged out after ACC president Mohsin Naqvi failed to address the trophy handover issue. With the Indian representatives exiting, the ACC refrained from passing any resolution on the matter.
A BCCI insider revealed that the friction began right at the start.
“The ACC chief did not congratulate India in his opening remarks for winning the tournament. The BCCI insisted he insert these remarks. When he still didn’t move to present the trophy and medals to the team, the BCCI strongly protested and walked out,” the official said.
The row has further strained an already tense cricketing relationship between India and Pakistan, coming just months after renewed border tensions.
The controversy overshadowed India’s dominant run in the tournament, where they defeated Pakistan three times, including a convincing win in the final at Dubai on September 28. The post-match ceremony was delayed by nearly 90 minutes, ending without India receiving either the trophy or the winner’s medals. Instead, the silverware was carried away by ACC officials, leaving the champions without their traditional crowning moment.

This latest deadlock means the Asia Cup 2025 trophy presentation remains unresolved, with the BCCI now expected to escalate the matter at the ICC meetings in November.
