Ravi Bopara: India now ranks Pakistan at the bottom among cricketing threats

Former England opener Ravi Bopara has delivered a blunt assessment of the India–Pakistan cricket rivalry, stating that India no longer considers Pakistan a major threat on the field. His remarks come in the wake of India’s recent Asia Cup campaign, where the Men in Blue convincingly outplayed Pakistan in all three encounters.

Speaking on the Beard Before Wicket podcast, Bopara noted that while the historic rivalry remains, Pakistan has dropped significantly on India’s list of serious cricketing challenges. “I don’t think India see Pakistan as a major threat. They might see England, Australia, New Zealand, or South Africa as bigger challenges. Pakistan will be at the bottom of that list,” Bopara explained.

He emphasized that India approaches these matches with focus and professionalism, aiming to dominate rather than take chances. “The Indian dressing room would be saying, ‘Let’s not take it lightly today, just make sure we bury them.’ That’s the kind of mindset they carry into these games,” he added.

“Pakistan can’t outskill India”

Bopara argued that Pakistan’s reliance on individual brilliance, rather than a cohesive team effort, is a key reason for their struggles against India. “They’re not going to outskill India. They might be hoping that one player has a great day and wins the match, whereas India rely on a complete team effort,” he remarked.

He further highlighted Pakistan’s dependence on players like Fakhar Zaman to produce match-winning performances, which has not been enough to challenge India’s superior depth and consistency. “It’s a shame because Pakistan has a lot of talented cricketers, but they just haven’t been able to get over the line against India,” Bopara concluded.

India’s recent Asia Cup dominance has sent a clear message to their arch-rivals: while the rivalry remains intense, the Men in Blue are operating on an entirely different level.
