Asia Cup 2025 Trophy Row – The post-final drama between India and Pakistan refuses to die down, with Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi once again at the center of controversy. Days after he walked away with the Asia Cup trophy in Dubai, Naqvi has now set unusual conditions for India to receive the silverware.
In a statement posted on X, Naqvi dismissed reports of apologizing to BCCI officials during the recent ACC AGM and maintained that he had done nothing wrong.
“As ACC President, I was ready to hand over the trophy that very day and I am still ready now. If they truly want it, they are welcome to come to the ACC office and collect it from me,” Naqvi declared.
Naqvi’s Key Demands
Ready to hand over the trophy, but only at the ACC headquarters.
Insists India must come and collect it.
Claims he has done nothing wrong.
Denies ever apologizing to the BCCI — and says he never will.
BCCI’s Objection
BCCI representatives Ashish Shelar and Rajeev Shukla strongly objected during the ACC AGM, demanding answers over why the Asia Cup champions were denied their rightful trophy presentation. Despite Naqvi’s claims of willingness to hand over the cup, no resolution was reached, leaving the Indian board frustrated. The matter is now expected to be raised at the ICC meeting in November.
India’s Dominance on the Field
On the cricketing front, India defeated Pakistan three times during the tournament — including in the tense final — to clinch their record-extending ninth Asia Cup title. However, the on-field success has been overshadowed by off-field controversies.
India also maintained a strict no-handshake policy throughout the event, reflecting the heightened political tensions between the two neighbors. The strained relations escalated after the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 Indian lives, followed by India’s military response, Operation Sindoor.
With politics now entangled in cricketing traditions, the Asia Cup 2025 continues to grab headlines for all the wrong reasons.
