The Asia Cup 2025 final controversy continues to escalate as Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi has refused to hand over the trophy to India, insisting that the champions must collect it from him at the ACC office in Dubai.

India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the final on Sunday, with Tilak Varma’s unbeaten half-century guiding the Men in Blue to victory. However, the post-match celebrations turned sour after Indian players declined to accept the trophy from Naqvi, citing his strong anti-India political stance.

Three days later, the team still does not have its medals or silverware. In a defiant statement on X, Naqvi wrote:

“As ACC President, I was ready to hand over the trophy that very day and I am still ready now. If they truly want it, they are welcome to come to the ACC office and collect it from me.”

Naqvi also denied apologizing to BCCI officials during the ACC AGM and accused Indian media of spreading “fabricated propaganda.”

BCCI Furious, May Escalate to ICC

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken strong objection to the trophy fiasco. Vice-president Rajeev Shukla and former treasurer Ashish Shelar raised the issue during the ACC AGM, but no resolution was reached.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia criticized Naqvi’s actions, calling them “unfortunate and unsporting,” and confirmed that India will escalate the matter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) in its upcoming November meeting.

“We hope the trophy and medals will be returned to India soon. If not, we will lodge a serious complaint against the ACC chairman at the ICC meeting,” Saikia said.

Indo-Pak Cricket Tensions at Boiling Point

The controversy comes against the backdrop of strained Indo-Pak relations, with Indian players refusing handshakes with their Pakistani counterparts throughout the Asia Cup. Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister, has openly taken anti-India positions, further worsening the atmosphere.

For now, the Asia Cup 2025 trophy remains locked away — and the standoff between BCCI and Naqvi shows no sign of cooling down.
