Jadeja Leaves MS Dhoni Behind

Walking in after KL Rahul’s century, Jadeja played a counter-attacking knock to lift India’s scoring rate. During his innings, he struck his 79th Test six, surpassing Dhoni’s tally of 78. Remarkably, Jadeja achieved this in 7,111 deliveries, while Dhoni needed 8,104 balls to reach his 76 sixes.

With this milestone, Jadeja has climbed to third place in India’s all-time list for most sixes in Tests. The chart is currently topped by Rishabh Pant and Virender Sehwag with 90 each, followed by Rohit Sharma (88). Jadeja’s rapid strike rate places him among the most impactful lower-order batters in the red-ball format.

Pant’s Record Under Threat

When considering balls faced per six, Pant leads the pack with 90 sixes in just 4,621 deliveries, while Sehwag took over 10,000. Jadeja, however, stands at fourth in this efficiency-based list, showing how his batting has evolved into a genuine weapon for India. With his current form, Pant’s record could be under serious threat.

Consistency Boosting India’s Middle Order

Jadeja’s transformation into a reliable Test batter has been crucial for India. On the tour of England, he scored 516 runs in 10 innings at an average of 55.07, often providing stability in the middle order. Back at home, he has carried that confidence, reaching his half-century against West Indies with his trademark sword celebration.

Beyond his bowling exploits, Jadeja’s batting has consistently turned games in India’s favour. His ability to play counter-attacking knocks under pressure has given India much-needed depth and balance.

Senior Role and Vice-Captaincy

Now among the senior-most players in the squad, Jadeja was appointed vice-captain for this series in the absence of Rishabh Pant, who is sidelined due to injury. Embracing this responsibility, Jadeja continues to deliver with both bat and ball, underlining his status as one of India’s most valuable all-rounders.

Outlook

With Dhoni already behind him and Pant’s record in sight, Jadeja is proving that he is more than just a bowling all-rounder. His batting evolution is redefining his role in the Indian Test setup and adding another layer of strength to the team’s dominance.
