Ravindra Jadeja Test cricket performance continues to rise with century and four wickets

Ravindra Jadeja proved once again why he is one of India’s most reliable all-rounders in the longest format, even as his white-ball future remains uncertain. The 36-year-old delivered a match-winning performance in the opening Test against West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium, guiding India to an emphatic innings-and-140-run victory.

Jadeja was named Player of the Match for his unbeaten 104 with the bat and a brilliant spell of 4/54 with the ball. His all-round effort showcased his growing stature in Test cricket, even as the selectors left him out of the ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against Australia.

The decision to drop Jadeja from the ODI setup came just hours before the Test concluded, but the veteran showed no signs of disappointment in his post-match interaction. Known for his calm demeanor, Jadeja once again reinforced his image as a true team man.

Batting Revival in Tests

Jadeja, traditionally seen as a bowling all-rounder, has been in superb batting form over the past year. In the England tour earlier this summer, he amassed 516 runs, including a century and five fifties, as India drew the series 2-2. His latest ton in Ahmedabad further underlined his adaptability and maturity with the bat.

Reflecting on his recent success, Jadeja explained how batting higher up the order has changed his approach:

“When you get to bat at No. 5 or 6, you know you have the responsibility to build partnerships. At No. 8 or 9, you sometimes take more risks. This change has definitely helped me.”

Now just 10 runs shy of 4000 Test runs, Jadeja has a chance to join an elite club. Only Kapil Dev has achieved the double of 5000 Test runs and 400 wickets, a milestone Jadeja could realistically aim for.

“You’re putting pressure on me now,” Jadeja laughed when reminded of the record. “I’m enjoying my cricket at this stage, not thinking too much about milestones.”

The Senior Statesman

Currently in his 17th year of international cricket, Jadeja has emerged as the most senior figure in India’s Test dressing room. Asked about his fitness and longevity, the all-rounder dismissed complicated theories with his trademark humor:

“No, no, I keep it simple. Sometimes I sleep for long hours, sometimes less. I just know what my body needs before matches.”

It was a typical Jadeja response—uncomplicated, effective, and filled with quiet confidence. His stock in Test cricket continues to rise, cementing his role as one of India’s most valuable assets in the format.
