IND A vs AUS A: The India A vs Australia A series in Kanpur ended with more than just cricketing drama, as a food poisoning scare involving four Australia A cricketers threatened to overshadow the final match. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla stepped in to issue a clarification, insisting the illness was not due to poor food quality at the hotel.

Food poisoning scare rocks Australia A camp

Australia A fast bowler Henry Thornton had to be hospitalised after falling ill, while three other teammates also reported food-related sickness. However, Shukla dismissed concerns about the hotel’s food, stressing that both Indian and Australian players had been eating from the same facility.

If there had been an issue with the food, all players, including the Indians, would have fallen sick. It must have been something else,” Shukla told reporters. “They are being served food from one of the finest hotels in Kanpur — Hotel Landmark. Since only a few players were affected, idhar-udhar se koi infection aa gaya hoga (they may have contracted an infection from elsewhere).”

He also pointed out logistical challenges in Kanpur, including limited availability of large five-star hotels and the absence of a fully operational international airport.

India A hold their nerve to seal the series

Despite the off-field incident, India A secured a two-wicket win in the series decider, sealing the three-match contest 2-1 at the iconic Green Park Stadium.

  • Prabhsimran Singh was the star of the chase, smashing a brilliant 68-ball 102 at the top.

  • Skipper Shreyas Iyer (50) and Riyan Parag (52) added crucial half-centuries.

  • Chasing 317, India A looked comfortable at 262/3 in the 35th over before a dramatic collapse reduced them to 301/8, losing five wickets in just 57 deliveries. Eventually, they held their nerve to cross the line.
