Yashasvi Jaiswal once again showcased his brilliance with the bat, scoring a stunning 175 off 258 balls in India’s first innings of the second Test against West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Despite being run out after a mix-up with skipper Shubman Gill, the 23-year-old left-hander’s innings stood out for its maturity and control, featuring 22 boundaries.

His knock placed him alongside Graeme Smith as one of the youngest players to score 150+ runs five times in Test cricket before turning 24. After the game, a light-hearted moment unfolded between Jaiswal and West Indies legend Brian Lara near the boundary line. Lara, smiling, told him, “Don’t beat our bowlers that bad!” to which Jaiswal replied humbly that he was just “trying.”

In a video shared by the BCCI, Jaiswal opened up about his mindset during the innings:

“I always put the team first — how I can play for my team and what’s important at that moment. If I get a start, I make sure I convert it into a big one.”

He also praised his partnerships with Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill, mentioning how their strike rotation and aggressive shot selection kept the pressure on the bowlers.

This innings marked Jaiswal’s seventh Test century and narrowly missed becoming his third double hundred, following his two double centuries against England in 2024. The young star earned widespread praise from fans and legends alike, with Sunil Gavaskar commending his consistency and elegant shot-making.

Jaiswal’s 175 reinforced his growing reputation as one of India’s brightest batting talents — a player capable of building long innings with patience, precision, and maturity beyond his years.
