AB de Villiers Warns Australia Ahead of T20Is: ‘Abhishek Sharma Can Destroy Any Bowling Attack’

Abhishek, who was the Player of the Tournament in the recent Asia Cup, has been in sensational form, emerging as one of India’s most explosive openers in the shortest format. His consistent brilliance with the bat has already taken him to the No. 1 spot in ICC T20I rankings, making him one of the most feared batters in world cricket.

The left-hander scored 314 runs in seven innings during the Asia Cup, averaging 44.86, and played a vital role in India’s unbeaten championship run.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, de Villiers praised Abhishek’s fearless approach and his ability to dominate bowlers on both sides of the wicket.

“Abhishek Sharma is in the form of his life. Some are even calling him the best opening batter in the world right now in this format,” de Villiers said. “It will be great to see what he can do in Australia. I think he’ll enjoy the conditions because of the extra bounce there.”

De Villiers went on to break down the technical strengths that make Abhishek such a dangerous batter.

“He loves freeing up his arms through the off-side, opening up the blade to hit boundaries from point to third man. And he can just as easily clear the leg side — a complete, all-round stroke maker. He’s a fantastic batter to watch,” he added.

While Abhishek’s dominance in T20Is continues, he narrowly missed out on India’s ODI squad for the Australia series. The selectors gave Yashasvi Jaiswal the nod ahead of him despite Abhishek’s inclusion in two List A matches against Australia A, which were meant to test his readiness for the 50-over format.

With his explosive batting and useful left-arm spin, Abhishek remains one of the most exciting prospects in Indian cricket — and if de Villiers’ words are any indication, Australia’s bowlers could be in for a tough challenge in the upcoming series.
