Asia Cup 2025: Kris Srikkanth Criticises Harshit Rana for ‘Filmy Gimmicks’ After Sri Lanka Clash
Asia Cup 2025 saw India survive a scare against Sri Lanka in a thrilling Super Over, but young pacer Harshit Rana came under heavy criticism for his performance and on-field antics.

Rana conceded 54 runs in four overs at an economy of 13.50, struggling to find consistency with his line and length while Sri Lanka’s batters, particularly Pathum Nissanka, attacked him relentlessly. Although he displayed raw pace exceeding 145 kmph, his inability to control deliveries drew sharp scrutiny.
Tasked with defending 12 runs in the final over, Rana struck immediately by dismissing Nissanka on the first ball, but Dasun Shanaka (22* off 11) kept Sri Lanka in the hunt, taking the game into a Super Over. India eventually prevailed, thanks to Arshdeep Singh, who restricted Sri Lanka to just two runs in the tie-breaker.
Former India captain Kris Srikkanth was particularly vocal about Rana’s “filmy gimmicks” on the field. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth criticised the pacer for prioritising theatrics over execution.
“Harshit Rana does too many filmy gimmicks. All these reactions aren’t of any use—you’ve got to bowl well. He does the same in the IPL. This is not a good attitude; it’s just showboating. Aggression is fine, but diving and celebrating after the ball is gone only hurts your game. That’s why he got punished today,” Srikkanth said.
Srikkanth also credited wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy for keeping India competitive during the chase of 202 runs.
“India won because of the four overs in the middle from Kuldeep and Varun. Wrist spinners are always potential match-winners, and today it proved true. Sri Lanka exposed the Indian bowling a bit—Axar Patel can be taken to the cleaners if there’s no turn,” he added.
Despite the win, the match highlighted areas India must improve before the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan, especially in the fast-bowling department.
