Asia Cup 2025: Suryakumar Yadav Fined for Post-Match Remarks Against Pakistan

India captain Suryakumar Yadav has been fined 30 percent of his match fee for comments made after the Asia Cup group-stage clash against Pakistan, tournament organisers confirmed on Friday (September 26).

The charge stemmed from remarks Suryakumar made in the post-match presentation on September 14, when he dedicated India’s victory to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and the Indian armed forces. Pakistan lodged a formal complaint with the ICC, accusing the Indian skipper of making political statements.

The disciplinary hearing was conducted by ICC match referee Richie Richardson. Although Suryakumar pleaded not guilty, he was advised to avoid making comments that could be interpreted as political for the remainder of the tournament.

Tensions between the two arch-rivals have been simmering throughout the Asia Cup. The friction intensified after Indian players refused to partake in the customary handshake with Pakistan before and after matches, citing solidarity with the Pahalgam victims.

With India and Pakistan set to renew their rivalry in the coming days, the controversy has only added more spice to an already heated Asia Cup campaign.
