A tense moment unfolded during India’s Women’s World Cup 2025 clash against Australia in Visakhapatnam, as India captain Harmanpreet Kaur lost her cool at teammate Harleen Deol following a dreadful mid-pitch mix-up that almost resulted in a run-out.

The incident occurred in the 35th over of India’s innings when Megan Schutt bowled a slower delivery aimed at the stumps. Harmanpreet mistimed her shot towards the cover fielder and set off for a quick single. However, Harleen hesitated midway, leaving both batters stranded dangerously.
Harmanpreet had to dive full stretch to make her crease as Alyssa Healy collected the throw at the striker’s end. Though she narrowly survived, the Indian skipper immediately turned to Harleen and vented her frustration with a few sharp words. Harleen, aware of her mistake, avoided eye contact and stood quietly at the non-striker’s end.
On the very next ball, Harmanpreet channeled her anger into aggression, smashing Schutt for a boundary. She repeated the feat off the next delivery as well, before walking up to Harleen and giving her a light tap on the back — a sign that the issue was settled.
Despite her fiery start, Harmanpreet couldn’t convert her innings, getting out for 22 off 17 balls, dismissed by Schutt soon after. Harleen also failed to make an impact and departed cheaply, leaving India in a tricky spot despite a strong foundation.
Earlier, Smriti Mandhana (80) and Pratika Rawal (75) had set up India’s innings with a blistering 155-run opening stand. Mandhana also made history by becoming the first woman cricketer to score 1000 ODI runs in a single calendar year.
India eventually posted 330 runs, but their momentum was halted by Annabel Sutherland’s stunning five-wicket haul, preventing them from crossing the 350-run mark.
The fiery exchange between Harmanpreet and Harleen added a dramatic twist to an otherwise dominant Indian performance — a moment that reflected the passion and intensity of India’s captain as she continues to lead from the front.
