IND vs PAK Asia Cup 2025 Final: Abhishek Sharma’s meteoric rise in international cricket continued in the Asia Cup 2025, where he finished as the tournament’s highest run-scorer with 314 runs at an average of 44.85 and a strike rate of 200. The 25-year-old opener from Punjab not only gave India fiery starts but also walked away with the prestigious Player of the Tournament award after India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the final on Sunday, September 28, in Dubai.
Though Abhishek fell cheaply in the summit clash while attempting to attack Faheem Ashraf, his overall consistency and fearless batting throughout the tournament cemented his reputation as one of India’s most impactful match-winners.
Drafted into the T20I setup on the back of his explosive performances for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024, Abhishek has seamlessly transitioned into the international stage. Particularly in the two high-pressure India–Pakistan encounters before the final, his attacking intent stood out, proving he thrives under big-match situations.
‘We will continue playing fearless cricket’
Speaking after the final, Abhishek emphasized that India’s new brand of cricket is here to stay.
“Since the time I have been in the team, I have not felt this is a pressure match. We prepared for every match in the same way,” Abhishek told reporters at the post-match press conference, sitting alongside captain Suryakumar Yadav.
“Surya and coach Gautam Gambhir have given me confidence. When you want to play a high-risk game, failures do come. But the way they handled me, I am able to play like this because of that. It is very important to get such support from the team. We have been wanting to play this brand of cricket with intent from the start. Irrespective of the opposition, we will continue playing like this.”

Future of India’s batting looks secure
With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli stepping away from T20Is, Abhishek’s fearless approach at the top signals a new era for Indian cricket. His ability to dominate powerplays, coupled with strong backing from the captain and coach, has given India a fresh identity in the shortest format.
As India lifted their ninth Asia Cup title, Abhishek Sharma’s words made it clear: India’s aggressive, high-risk batting template is not just a phase—it’s the future.
