IND vs PAK:India maintained its perfect record against Pakistan in women’s ODIs, registering a commanding 88-run win in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo on Sunday. Under Harmanpreet Kaur’s leadership, India has now extended its unbeaten head-to-head record to 12-0 in ODIs.
The contest followed familiar patterns, though with a few unusual moments. India stuck to its “no-handshake” policy, a stance first seen during the men’s Asia Cup in the UAE. There was also a toss mishap, a bizarre run out, and a 15-minute delay caused by bugs on the field.
India’s Batting Effort
Opting to bat first after being sent in, India posted 247 runs before being bowled out. The conditions were tricky on a slow, rain-affected surface. Harleen Deol (46) and Richa Ghosh (35) provided crucial contributions, though most batters struggled to convert their starts.
“It wasn’t an easy pitch to bat on. We wanted to bat longer and keep wickets in hand. Richa’s 30-odd runs were very crucial for us,” said Harmanpreet in the post-match presentation.
Pakistan’s Chase Falters
Chasing 248, Pakistan suffered an early collapse, reduced to 26 for 3 by the eighth over. Despite a spirited knock from Sidra Amin (81 off 106 balls) and a 33-run contribution from Natalia Pervaiz, the side folded for 159 in 43 overs.
India’s bowlers were clinical, with Kranti Goud (3/20) and Deepti Sharma (3/45) leading the charge. Shree Charani (2/38) and Renuka Singh provided valuable support in dismantling the Pakistan batting lineup.
Harmanpreet’s Message
Speaking after the win, Harmanpreet said:
“Very happy, very important game for all of us, and I’m sure everyone back home is happy as well. Our bowling was great — Kranti bowled outstandingly, and Renuka gave us key breakthroughs. We dropped a few chances, but in the end, when you win, you’re happy.”
Looking ahead, the Indian skipper emphasized the importance of momentum:
“There are areas to improve, but we are happy with this win. Now we head back to India, where we know the conditions well, and we’ll decide our combinations accordingly.”
