IND vs WI 1st Test: West Indies captain Roston Chase won the toss and opted to bat first against India in the opening Test of the two-match series at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Thursday (October 2, 2025).

For India, it is a fresh chapter in Test cricket, as Shubman Gill leads the side at home for the very first time after the retirements of stalwarts Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin. The young skipper will be eager to turn things around after India’s disappointing 3-0 defeat in their previous home Test series against New Zealand.

India’s Team Combination

India went in with a spin-heavy attack, fielding Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar as the three frontline spinners. Pace spearheads Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj lead the fast-bowling unit, with Nitish Kumar Reddy providing balance as the fast-bowling all-rounder.

They also included spinners Jomel Warrican and Khary Pierre, while the pace attack features Johann Layne and Jayden Seales.

With India beginning a new era and the West Indies keen to make a mark away from home, the first Test promises to be a thrilling contest.
