Pakistan trolled for fielding blunder vs India in Women’s World Cup 2025
Pakistan’s fielding woes once again came under the spotlight as the team committed a comical error during their Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 clash against India in Colombo. The incident, which unfolded in the final over of the first innings, left fans in disbelief and sparked a flood of trolling on social media.
Pakistan dropped Richa Ghosh in the final over of the first innings.
India were 236/8 at the end of the 49th over, with Richa Ghosh on strike and Kranti Goud at the other end. Facing Diana Baig, Ghosh miscued a short delivery outside off. Fielder Nawaz called for the catch and reached it with her glove, but at the same time, Pervaiz charged in from backward point. The two collided slightly, and in the confusion, both ended up dropping what should have been a straightforward catch.
The comedy of errors allowed Richa to sneak a single, and moments later, Goud punished Baig with a boundary. However, Baig had the last laugh, dismissing Goud and Renuka Singh in consecutive deliveries to bowl India out for 247 in 50 overs.
Fans on social media were quick to slam Pakistan’s sloppy fielding, calling the drop a “cult classic” moment in India-Pakistan clashes.
The match also witnessed another unusual moment when play was briefly disrupted due to pests on the field. India’s Jemimah Rodrigues admitted the distraction made batting harder:
“To be honest, I had to concentrate a lot more because you could not see much, but you have to do what you have to do.”
Rodrigues also reflected on the conditions:
“It was not an easy pitch because it was covered for 48 hours. The moisture was giving it a bit of hold. But this is a fighting total for us.”
India’s batting effort saw multiple starts but no big scores, with Harleen Deol top-scoring with 46 off 65 balls. For Pakistan, Diana Baig was the standout bowler, finishing with four wickets despite the dramatic fielding lapse.
