Shan Masood Responds to Criticism: Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood once again found himself at the center of attention after a journalist questioned his leadership and recent performances in Test cricket. Despite guiding Pakistan to a Test series win against England, Masood’s batting average of 30.12 after 40 Tests continues to draw criticism from fans and media alike.

Ahead of Pakistan’s upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) cycle against South Africa, Masood faced a sharp question from a reporter during a press interaction, who said, “Our Test captain is not leading from the front.”

In response, Masood calmly asked the journalist to back his claim with numbers, highlighting that judgments should be made on facts, not perceptions.

“If you give me numbers, then I will answer this question. We are just repeating one thing. We are playing in such conditions where our priority is to take 20 wickets. To win in the WTC, you can’t play for draws. We need to lower our expectations when it comes to cumulative averages,” said Masood.

Masood further pointed out that during the last WTC cycle, he was among Pakistan’s top run-scorers, even though the team’s overall results didn’t reflect individual performances.

Earlier this year, Masood had shown glimpses of form, scoring 145 against South Africa in Cape Town and following it up with a 52-run knock against the West Indies in Multan. However, questions about his consistency and leadership persist.

Pakistan Set to Begin New WTC Cycle Against South Africa

Pakistan will kick off their new WTC campaign against Aiden Markram-led South Africa on Sunday, October 12, in Lahore. The squad sees the return of star players Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, whose form will be key to Pakistan’s success.

Meanwhile, the Proteas will be without regular captain Temba Bavuma, who is sidelined due to injury. After the Pakistan series, South Africa will head to India for a two-Test contest.

Pakistan are still chasing their maiden WTC final appearance, while South Africa clinched the previous edition after defeating Australia in the final at Lord’s.
