Suryakumar Yadav dismissal controversy lit up the Asia Cup 2025 final as high drama unfolded in Dubai on Sunday. Chasing a modest 147 after bowling out Pakistan for 146 in 19.1 overs, India were rocked early when skipper Suryakumar Yadav refused to leave the crease following his dismissal, sparking heated exchanges on the field.

India’s chase began on the back foot after Abhishek Sharma, who had been India’s most aggressive opener in the tournament, perished in the second over to Faheem Ashraf for just 5 runs. The bigger shock came in the next over when Shaheen Afridi delivered a clever slower ball to Suryakumar. Looking to loft over the infield, SKY mistimed his stroke and Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha pulled off a spectacular diving catch at mid-off.
The Pakistan players erupted in celebration, but Suryakumar stood his ground, clearly unconvinced that the catch was clean. He even walked towards the umpire, gesturing in protest. The on-field official referred the decision upstairs, where after several replays, the third umpire confirmed it was a fair catch. SKY trudged back after scoring just 1 off 5 balls, leaving India reeling at 10/2 inside three overs.
While Salman’s athletic effort drew praise, Suryakumar’s reaction stirred controversy. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, on commentary, didn’t mince words:
“India are taking it casually. They think 146 is not a score, and they have lost two wickets unnecessarily. That was a reckless shot by Suryakumar, much like Abhishek’s. There was no need for it.”
Earlier, Pakistan had made a strong start after being put in to bat, with Sahibzada Farhan (57) and Fakhar Zaman (46) adding 84 for the opening stand. But from 113/1, the innings collapsed dramatically. India’s spinners turned the tide — Kuldeep Yadav (4/30) starred with the ball, well supported by Varun Chakaravarthy (2/30), Axar Patel (2/26) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/25).
With India two wickets down early, the Asia Cup 2025 final has turned into a tense thriller, with SKY’s controversial dismissal becoming one of the talking points of the match.
