India’s Asia Cup 2025 triumph in Dubai may have ended in controversy, but captain Suryakumar Yadav has set an example with a noble gesture. The skipper announced that he would donate his entire match fee from the tournament to the Indian Armed Forces and the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.

“I have decided to donate my match fees from this tournament to support our Armed Forces and the families of the victims who suffered from the Pahalgam terror attack. You always remain in my thoughts. Jai Hind,” the 35-year-old posted on ‘X’ after the high-voltage win.

BCCI announced ₹21 crore prize money for Asia Cup-winning Indian team and support staff.

On Sunday (September 28), India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the final to claim their record-extending ninth Asia Cup crown. However, the victory celebrations were marred by the now-infamous trophy fiasco, after the team refused to accept the silverware from ACC chairman and Pakistan’s interior minister Mohsin Naqvi.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Suryakumar addressed the controversy with calm resolve.
“I have never seen this before — the winning team not receiving the trophy. But for me, my players and support staff are the real trophies,” he said.

Explaining the team’s stance, the skipper added:
“We took this call on the ground. No one told us to do this. It was a collective decision not to accept the trophy from Mr. Naqvi.”

While fans continue to debate the trophy drama, Suryakumar’s donation has won widespread praise. His decision to extend support to the armed forces and terror victims has added a deeper meaning to India’s Asia Cup victory, reminding everyone that cricket can be a platform for solidarity beyond the sport.
