Women’s World Cup 2025: England spinner Charlie Dean has acknowledged that Bangladesh’s bowling attack poses a unique and serious challenge ahead of their Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 encounter at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati on Tuesday.

The two sides will meet in the format for only the second time, with Dean reflecting on the threat the “Tigresses” bring, especially given their impressive bowling statistics over the past 18 months.

Dean, who claimed three wickets for 31 runs in nine overs in England’s 100-run win in their previous outing, praised Bangladesh’s discipline and variation in bowling.

“Bangladesh’s bowling attack is, I think, ranked number one in terms of economy over the last 18 months. So, it’s nothing to be taken lightly,” Dean said on Monday. “They have Marufa Akter with her big in-swing early on, and a variety of spinners who can really keep things tight. They might operate at a lower pace, but their accuracy and variations make them equally challenging. We’re not underestimating them at all.”

Dean also emphasized that England’s approach would focus on restricting runs and forcing Bangladesh batters into risky shots. “We’ll try to make them play the big shots and limit their scoring options. It’s going to be a different kind of challenge,” she added.

England began their World Cup campaign in dominant fashion, crushing South Africa by 10 wickets at the same venue. However, the conditions are expected to differ slightly this time.

“We’re on a fresh pitch, so we have to reassess,” Dean explained. “From the last game, we learned that bowling back of a length worked well — it made it hard for batters to drive. Playing under lights, the ball tends to skid on a bit later, so that’s something we’re mindful of going into the game. We’ll adapt as the match progresses.”

With both teams coming off impressive wins in their opening fixtures, Tuesday’s clash promises to be an intriguing contest between England’s power-packed lineup and Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling unit.
